The Little Club that Did !!

Salish Sea Coastal Rowing Club was formed a little over 3 years ago by a group of rowers who wanted to share their love of rowing our beautiful coastline. We knew that we were the first FISA recognized Coastal Rowing Club in BC, and in fact the only one west of PEI. Our goals at the time were simple:

  • introduce coastal rowing to Vancouver
  • focus on crew boats to build a coastal rowing community of friends
  • create a club that was flexible enough to encourage competitive racers,  invite adventure rowing, yet also have room for those who just wanted to row in beauty.

We never imagined that 3 years later, our members would be integral to the production and participation in the World Rowing Coastal Championships (and we even designed sassy new club uniforms).

Our members joined the organizing committee (O.A.R.C.A.) to produce the championships, volunteered at the event and crewed up to compete against the very best in the world.

That this little club could do so much in such a short time is testament to the spirit of coastal rowing-no challenge is too big, no sea is too big, no waves are too big. We are the little club that did.

What's next for Salish Sea? well that chapter is still to be written.
